Last year was one of the strongest for horror releases. Some of 2024’s box-office successes include A Quiet Place: Day One ($138.9 million), Alien: Romulus ($105.3 million), Longlegs ($74 million), Speak No Evil ($36.9 million), and Terrifier 3 ($53.9 million). The year ended strongly, as Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu remake brought in $166.5 million following its Christmas Day release.
Thankfully, the horror movies of 2025 look just as promising. The year kicked off with Leigh Whannell’s adaptation of the classic Universal monster film Wolf Man, the rom-com slasher flicks Companion and Heart Eyes, and Oz Perkins’ Stephen King adaptation of The Monkey.
There is still plenty to look forward to, including the adaptation of Adam Cesare’s Clown in a Cornfield, Danny Boyle’s much-anticipated 28 Years Later, the Insidious spin-off Thread: An Insidious Tale, and sequels to M3GAN, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Black Phone, The Conjuring, and Hell House LLC.
Let’s dive into what’s to come!

The Woman in the Yard
Release Date: March 28
Director: Jaume Collet-Serra
Starring: Danielle Deadwyler, Okwui Okpokwasili, Russell Hornsby, Peyton Jackson, Estella Kahiha
Not much of The Woman in the Yard’s plot has been officially revealed. According to Wikipedia, “A woman in black appears on a family’s front lawn and delivers a chilling warning. No one knows where she came from, what she wants, or when she will leave.” Since there are no citations, this could change as additional information becomes available.
However, the primary cast and crew have been announced. Jaume Collet-Serra will direct the Sam Stefanak-written film. This will be Stefanak’s debut feature, whereas Collet-Serra has made House of Wax (2005), Orphan (2009), The Shallows (2016), Jungle Cruise (2021), Black Adam (2022), Carry-On (2024), and others.
Danielle Deadwyler (I Saw the TV Glow, Carry-On), Okwui Okpokwasili (Agatha All Along, The Exorcist: Believer), and Russell Hornsby (Grimm, Creed II) are leading the project.

28 Years Later
Release Date: June 20
Director: Danny Boyle
Starring: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell

Synopsis: It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected.
One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. M3GAN 2.0
Release Date: June 27
Director: Gerard Johnstone
Starring: Allison Williams, Jenna Davis, Violet McGraw, Amie Donald
Given the success of M3GAN (2022), it is not surprising that Blumhouse announced a sequel right away. Untitled I Know What You Did Last Summer Sequel
Release Date: July 18
Director: Jennifer Kaytin Robinson
Starring: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, Chase Sui Wonders, Billy Campbell, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, Gabbriette
I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, released direct-to-video in 2006, made little progress in the slasher franchise. Aside from production issues, critics and audiences lambasted it, which may explain why the untitled fourth installment is a direct sequel to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
Alongside a new cast, original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. will reprise their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson. And while the title and plot haven’t been revealed, Leah McKendrick, who drafted the original story, told Collider earlier this year that “it really reckons with some big ideas about hero and villain, right and wrong, how your skeletons come back to haunt you. And in the age of the internet and the age where fame is such a revered concept, the creation of TikTok and social media, who is Julie James in a world where there are no secrets anymore?”
A trailer has yet to be released.

Deadline reports that this “offshoot project” will not be a “continuation of the current series.” It will follow a “husband and wife (Nanjiani and Moore) who enlist the help of a spell to travel back in time, such that they can prevent the death of their young daughter. The consequences, of course, prove to be severe.”
A trailer has yet to be released.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has also cast brother Jake Gyllenhaal and husband Peter Sarsgaard.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Sarsgaard commented on the film’s musical nature: “Then Jessie is the most abstract, random, free-flowing, in-the-moment actor you could ever work with. She can also sing and dance by the way—big time. There are big dance numbers and stuff in the movie.”
Synopsis: In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein asks Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. They give life to a murdered woman as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change.

And the thing is, as soon as I saw the mask, which was designed by Tom Savini and Jason Baker, as soon as I saw the mask, I thought, “If this film is a hit, there’ll be a sequel,” because the mask is so iconic.”

He’s still badass, but there’s something there that touches you emotionally, too.”
The director continued to explain that he enjoys “pushing the franchise’s boundaries, letting us root for a hero we rarely get to root for—but in a different way. And that transformed into this big idea of rooting for the Predator.”
It is rumored that Trachtenberg is also working on another Predator film. As of this writing, not much is known. Stay tuned for more news.
