It’s been quite the journey for Friday the 13th: The Game. From its early development as Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp, to getting the Friday the 13th license from Sean Cunningham, to the release of the game, to the announcement of no more new content, to the present with players still keeping the game alive by playing it anyway, it has definitely been an interesting ride. We’ve been there every step of the way, but for Xbox users who’ve yet to play the game, Microsoft and Gun Media are giving you a late invitation.
Next month, Friday the 13th: The Game will be included as a free title to download for Xbox Gold subscribers. This means that the game can be downloaded for free during a 30 day window, but Gold subscribers who download it during this time will be able to play it anytime they want forever – so as long as their subscriptions remain active. Certainly, so many of us horror fans have already played the hell out of the F13 game, but if you’ve always been curious and never had the chance, here’s a great opportunity to check it out.
Per Xbox.com, here’s the list of games coming to the Xbox One and 360 consoles starting in October.
- Tembo the Badass Elephant ($14.99 ERP): Available October 1 to 31 on Xbox One
- Friday the 13th: The Game ($19.99 ERP): Available October 16 to November 15 on Xbox One
- Disney Bolt ($9.99 ERP): Available October 1 to 15 on Xbox One & Xbox 360
- Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge ($29.99 ERP): Available October 16 to 31 on Xbox One & Xbox 360
While playing as a “badass elephant” also sounds like it could be a wonderful experience, the Friday the 13th game is definitely the title that stands out most here. Again, if you’re on Xbox Gold and have never played the game, take this chance to check it out.
