A New ‘BioShock’ Game is Officially in the Works

2K recently announced that a new development studio has been formed under 2K’s publishing label. Cloud Chamber is a development studio wholly owned by 2K and will set up camp in two locations. One is at 2K’s San Francisco Bay area HQ in Novato, California. The second studio will be 2K’s first location in Canada and will be located in Montreal, Quebec.

New development studios are always good news in the world of gaming, but what’s EVEN better than a new development studio? A NEW BIOSHOCK GAME! In addition to Cloud Chamber, 2K also announced that the new studio has taken on the monumental task of working on the next game in the BioShock franchise. With the good news comes some bad. While a new BioShock game is definitely exciting, 2K made sure to say that the game would be in development for the next several years. Now whether or not this is an overestimate to cover their behinds in case development goes overtime, we don’t know. What we do know is that a new game is somewhere down the pipeline, and that is HOPE!

The original team that created and worked on BioShock and BioShock Infinite (BioShock 2 was outsourced to an external team) is unfortunately not attached to the project, as they rebranded as Ghost Story Games (formerly Irrational Games). This team includes Ken Levine, who was the mastermind behind BioShock. Ghost Story Games is off working on more story-driven games, and I can’t wait to see what they do next.

As for BioShock, I’m wearily excited for the new game. I’m hoping it’s great, but I wasn’t much of a fan of BioShock 2 (which was also made by a new Ken Levine-less team). I’ll remain positive that, if this game arrives before I’m 80, it will be good. In the wise words of Shigeru Miyamoto, “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”
