Director Morten Tyldum brought us the Oscar-nominated The Imitation Game and the vastly-underrated Headhunters, and is now dipping his toes in sci-fi/romance waters with Passengers.
A ship containing almost 5,300 people of various trades and professions is on a 100+ year journey to a distant colony planet. It wouldn’t be much of a movie without something going awry, which is where Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt enter the picture as two passengers that wake up in their hibernation pods 90 years early. I’m a big fan of contained stories done well, like Ex Machina or what Free Fire appears to be, and Passengers seems to be in the same vein albeit with a bigger concept. Lawrence and Pratt’s characters are not only getting acquainted and then some, but are driven to discover why they are the only two to wake up early.
Take a look at the stunning visuals and intriguing mystery of Passengers in the first trailer below! Let’s not kid ourselves: in certain parts, this trailer is sexier than anything Fifty Shades of Grey or its sequel is attempting.
