Batman The Animated Series HD Kevin Conroy batman

Batman has had his fair share of TV and film adaptations over the years. For many fans, however, the definitive version of the Caped Crusader is without a doubt Batman: The Animated Series. Airing from 1992 to 1995, the show was produced by Warner Bros. for the Fox network and became an instant hit with fans.

Decades later, however, the beloved series still hasn’t had a proper hi-def treatment. Episodes have been made available on DVD and on streaming services in the past, but not with an HD transfer. While still enjoyable to watch, it was very peculiar not to see this standard practice be given to Batman: The Animated Series considering its popularity with the fanbase.

Finally, DC will be rectifying this with their upcoming DC Universe streaming video service. Announced officially in a tweet, it’s now confirmed that the first two seasons of the show will be available in HD for the first time ever. Not that we needed another excuse to revisit this awesome series, but now we have one knowing our black-and-gray Batman now looks better than ever.

Last year, it was reported that Batman: The Animated Series would finally be heading to Blu-ray as well. Though details were scarce, the release date was intended to be for sometime this year. One would assume this new HD version of the show will also be included on the Blu-ray set.

Kevin Conroy famously voices Bruce Wayne on the series, and his voice is completely synonymous with Batman. The show also introduced Mark Hamill as the voice of the Joker as well. Even when compared to live-action versions of these characters, Conroy and Hamill’s portrayals are considered by most to be among the very best. The two continue to voice the characters in modern video games set in the Batman universe.

There is no official launch date for DC Universe, though it’s set to go live before the end of the year. Stay tuned for more updates!
