For the most part, wrestling fans are happy with simple wrestling games that just feature their favorite stars grappling in the ring. Still, some developers have tried adding wacky gimmicks to wrestling-themed titles, giving us these totally bizarre video games…
1WWF In Your House (2006)
In 1995, Acclaim released a WWF-based arcade game aptly titled WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game. It offered a playstyle more akin to other arcade fighting games like Mortal Kombat, even featuring digitized sprites of real WWF wrestlers. Each of them had their own over-the-top special moves, but as it takes place in a WWF arena, it still felt like a wrestling game.
One year later, Acclaim rushed out a follow-up title, and it is somehow twice as bizarre as its predecessor. Featuring a similar arcade fighting style, WWF In Your House was released for the PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC. This time, the regular wrestling arena is completely ditched for unique stages for each available wrestler. This includes a crypt for The Undertaker, a night club for Shawn Michaels, and a mansion for Hunter Hearst Helmsley.
Despite being a sequel of sorts, In Your House pales in comparison to WrestleMania: The Arcade Game. The graphics were far lower in quality and the controls were frustrating. Additionally, its backdrops only made the game feel much more outlandish, and much farther removed from actual pro wrestling.
