Who’s Sony gonna call? Ernie Hudson, hopefully!
Recently, news broke that Jason Reitman would be directing a modern sequel to Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II. Plot details are still under wraps, but the story will be ignoring the 2016 reboot in favor of continuing the story established by the originals. This opens the door for the return of some of the original cast members to reprise their roles, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson (Harold Ramis passed away in 2014).
Over the past few days, rumors began to circulate about the potential involvement of these original actors. Because the matter is being discussed across the web, Hudson was asked about possibly appearing in Ghostbusters 3 to reprise the role of Winston Zeddemore. Unfortunately, the actor has revealed that, as of right now, nobody has approached him about appearing in the movie, though he still remains very excited about its release.
From Ghostbusters News:
“I think the Ghostbusters fans have been wanting this dynamic to happen, so I know whatever happens is going to be in that tradition… I’m excited about that. I’d be more excited if they called me and offered me a job, but no matter what happens the fact that they’re doing it is really cool.”
Hudson and Aykroyd both seem like guarantees to appear in the film, so as long as they’re actually offered the job. Bill Murray remains the big “if,” considering how adamant he had been for years about never doing another Ghostbusters film. Of course, Murray did have a cameo in the 2016 reboot, albeit as a completely different character. If the screenplay is solid enough, perhaps we’ll see the return of Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters 3, along with Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore.
Summer 2020 will see the official release of Ghostbusters 3 in theaters.
