Jason Momoa Wants to Play Wolverine in a Marvel Movie

Warner Bros.

Jason Momoa has found tremendous success in the DCEU as Aquaman, but the acclaimed actor is open to one day entering the MCU as well. At Celebrity Fan Fest, Momoa was asked which character he would like to take on if he could portray any superhero from the Marvel universe. The Aquaman star chose the beloved X-Men character Wolverine, who has the reputation of being perhaps the biggest badass from Marvel Comics. Given his history as Game of Thrones’ Khal Drogo and in the titular role in Aquaman, there’s no reason to believe Momoa wouldn’t be able to nail that role as well.

On the big screen, Wolverine had been famously played by Hugh Jackman over the course of many years. He first appeared in the part in the first X-Men movie from the year 2000, with his performance instantly becoming a hit with fans. This led to a long run in the role which finally concluded in 2017 with the sequel Logan, with Jackman confirming it would be his final time ever in the part. This accomplishment has earned Jackman a Guinness World Record for “longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero.”

While waiting to see who will play Wolverine next, some fans have taken to lobbying for Danny DeVito in the role. As funny as the idea might seem, a petition to make it happen actually went viral. However, for obvious reasons, this seems far less likely to become a reality than it would be for someone like Momoa. It’s really not hard to imagine Momoa in the role of Wolverine, given his physical resemblance to the comic book version of the character. It does seem that the most popular X-Men character of all will inevitably be back on the big screen one day. Time will ultimately tell who ends up getting the part.
