FAN EXPO Canada returns to downtown Toronto once again this month, which means four days of all things geek taking over the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. This is a special year for the convention as it’s the 25th anniversary, with FAN EXPO Canada bringing in some of the biggest guests they have ever had. FAN EXPO began back in 1995, originally called the Canadian National Comic Book Expo. It was held in at Roy Thompson Hall and brought in about 1500 attendees. Now, it’s being held in one of the biggest convention centers in the country and draws in 130,000+ fans.Â
This year boasts an impressive guest list with headliners like Jeff Goldblum, John Travolta, Zachary Levi, and Brendan Fraser. This theme for this year’s FAN EXPO Canada seems to be reunions as there are a handful of cast reunions from fan favorites, such as: Tom Welling; Michael Rosenbaum; Smallville‘s Laura Vandervoort and Kristen Kreuk; The Goonies‘ Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, and Ke Huy Quan; Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, and Elizabeth Berkley from Saved By The Bell; Peter Weller (RoboCop); Edward James Olmos (Blade Runner, Battlestar Galactica); Rainn Wilson (The Office); Mike Colter (Luke Cage); Umbrella Academy‘s Emmy Raver-Lampman and Tom Hooper; and The Boys‘ Karl Urban and Jack Quaid.
This is also a HUGE year for comics at FAN EXPO Canada. Some of the headliners include names like Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Greg Capullo, Neal Adams, Tim Sale, Donny Cates, Steve McNiven, Humberto Ramos, David Finch, Meredith Finch, Mike Grell, Jeff Lemire, Jason Fabok, and Klaus Jansen. These are just a few of the hundreds of artists/writers/creators on the guest list. To call this list anything short of incredible would be an insult!
One of my favorite parts of any convention is meeting the voice actors. This year’s voice actor lineup features a ton of amazing talent, like Roger Clarke, Benjamin Brian Davies, Rob Wiethoff and Alex McKenna (Red Dead Redemption 2), Greg Cipes and Tara Strong (Teen Titans, Teen Titans GO), Patricia Summersett (Zelda – Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild), Peter Cullen and Frank Welker (Transformers), Veronica Taylor (Pokemon), Luci Christian (My Hero Academia), and so much more. It’s a lineup you won’t want to miss.Â
If you’re heading to FAN EXPO Canada this month, there’s programming all weekend long to keep you busy. On top of a multitude of awesome Q&A’s from all the attending celebrities, one panel you won’t want to miss is the voice actor script reading panel. This year an ensemble of attending voice actors will read the script for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory while acting out scenes in their characters’ voices. It might just be the best panel of the weekend.Â
Many companies will be exhibiting all weekend long on the show floor this year. EB Games is one of the biggest and most consistent exhibitors. They always have some pretty awesome stuff going on if you’re into gaming. This year, EB Games is partnering with Hasbro to sell 2019 Hasbro exclusives that have been available at other cons (like SDCC). There will also be game demos of upcoming video games available to try out like Borderlands 3, Watch Dogs Legion, Gears 5, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and more!Â
FAN EXPO Canada will run from Thursday, August 22nd until Sunday, August 25th. It will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in downtown Toronto. Tickets can be bought HERE, a full guest list can be viewed HERE, and a schedule of all the weekend’s events can be found HERE. If you’re attending the convention, enjoy and have fun
