Paranormal Activity fans, mark your calendars, as the seventh installment of the movie series will premiere in theaters on March 19, 2021. Previously, it had been reported that Paranormal Activity 7 was in development at Blumhouse in collaboration with Paramount, though a release date hadn’t yet been revealed. As since reported by The Wrap, we’re going to be waiting for the new movie a little longer than some of us may have thought, as March 2021 seems a little far away.
It’s certainly not surprising to see Paramount moving forward with a seventh installment of the Paranormal Activity series. Because of their low budgets, the movies can be tremendously profitable with even just moderate box office success. This was especially true of the original movie, which was filmed with just $15,000 and brought in over $193 million in worldwide ticket sales. The most recent installment of the franchise, 2015’s Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, made significantly less money with $78 million, but with its $10 million budget, the film still made a ton of money.
Along with The Blair Witch Project, the Paranormal Activity series is among the most well-known found footage horror movies. The simple concept behind them is typically to explore hauntings and supernatural occurrences as seen through “found” tapes and footage of the activity. Details on the seventh installment’s plot aren’t yet clear, and it’s also not known when production on the sequel will begin.
You can watch Paranormal Activity 7 when it premieres in theaters on March 19, 2021. For now, you can take a walk down memory lane by watching the original film’s trailer below!
Synopsis: Soon after moving into a suburban tract home, Katie (Katie Featherston) and Micah (Micah Sloat) become increasingly disturbed by what appears to be a supernatural presence. Hoping to capture evidence of it on film, they set up video cameras in the house but are not prepared for the terrifying events that follow.
