For many old-school gamers, the original Mortal Kombat movie from 1995 remains one of the very best video game adaptations ever made. Now, for those looking to revisit the classic film along with others who’ve yet to see it, Netflix has us covered as Mortal Kombat will begin streaming on the streaming service starting on April 1st. As many of us will still likely be stuck at home when the new month comes in, watching the fun and wildly entertaining flick that is Mortal Kombat will be a great way to pass a little bit of that time.
Directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, the classic film’s cast includes Christopher Lambert as Lord Rayden, Robin Shou as Liu Kang, Bridgette Wilson as Sonya Blade, Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, Trevor Goddard as Kano, and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung. As this original cast is still appreciated by longtime Mortal Kombat fans, Tagawa’s version of Shang Tsund was even featured in the latest video game installment of the series, Mortal Kombat 11, as a downloadable character.
Next year, a new live-action Mortal Kombat reboot from producer James Wan is set to be released in theaters. For now, we can look forward to time-traveling back to 1995 by checking out the original film when it streams next month. Mortal Kombat will begin streaming on Netflix on April 1st, and you can watch the official trailer for the classic film below!
Synopsis: Lord Rayden (Christopher Lambert) handpicks three martial artists — federal agent Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson), Shaolin monk Lui Kang (Robin Shou) and action movie sensation Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby) — and mentors them. After intense training, Rayden transports the trio to Outworld, the site of an inter-dimensional fighting tournament. There, the three humans must defeat the demonic warriors of the evil Shang Sung (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) — or allow Sung to take over the Earth.
