Trailer: ‘Game of Death’ Feels Like ‘Jumanji’ Gone Horribly Wrong

Game of Death via Cleopatra Entertainment

Cleopatra Entertainment has released the official trailer and unveiled a release date for Game of Death, the new horror/thriller that feels a bit like Jumanji but with a brutal and bloody horror movie twist. What begins as a fun afternoon playing games turns horrific when the seven millennials taking part learn the one and only rule: they must kill other innocent people to save themselves, otherwise their heads will literally explode. See? It’s basically Jumanji, but with lots of mass murder instead of animal hijinks.

Laurence “Baz” Morais-Legace and Sebastian Landry direct Game of Death and are also credited with adapting its story; Edouard H. Bond and Philip Kalin-Hajdu wrote the script. The cast includes Sam Earle (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Victoria Diamond (Creeped Out), and Emelia Hellman (Bellevue). The film has been enjoying a successful run in the festival circuit until the North American distribution rights were picked up by Cleopatra Entertainment last month, putting Game of Death on the fast track for theatrical and home video releases.

Game of Death is slated to release on July 3, 2020 on VOD and in theaters. You can check out the official trailer for Game of Death below, courtesy of Cleopatra Entertainment.

Synopsis: The film is set against a game in which the golden rule is “kill or be killed,” which sucks for seven millennials who decide to play one sunny day. They quickly realize that if they don’t murder people, their heads will literally explode. Hence, they go on a killing spree, taking the lives of anyone they meet in their middle-of-nowhere town. The killer-instinct in each of them bubbles to the surface as the search for victims unravels into chaos. Divided, terrified and confronted with their own mortality, their drive to survive blurs with their desire to win the game.
