Last week, EA teased an upcoming game set in the Star Wars universe called Star Wars: Squadrons. Earlier on Monday, the trailer was released for the game, showing off a beautiful cinematic, but no gameplay. It has been confirmed that EA will feature gameplay at their EA Play Live event in a couple of days, on June 18th.
Star Wars: Squadrons is being developed by Motive Studios and published by EA. It will be a first-person, space combat game set after the events of Return of the Jedi, post-Death Star II destruction. Squadrons will feature both a single-player campaign as well as 5v5 multiplayer modes.

In the single-player campaign, you will take control of two customizable pilots: one from the Republic’s Vanguard Squadron, and one from the Empire’s Titan Squadron. So far, two multiplayer modes have been announced; “Fleet Battles” and “Dogfights.” In “Fleet Battles,” your team’s objective is to destroy the enemy team’s flagship. In “Dogfights,” you have to destroy as many enemy ships as you can.
The game will feature locations both known and unknown from the Star Wars universe. Yavin Prime and Galitan are the only systems confirmed so far. We also know that all unlockables in the game will be earned through gameplay (meaning no microtransactions). Progressing through Squadrons will earn players weapons, hulls, engines, and shields to customize their starfighters as they see fit. Cosmetics can also be unlocked to tweak the appearance of the players’ pilot, ship exterior, and cockpit.
Star Wars: Squadrons will launch with a $49.99 price tag and release on October 2nd, 2020, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game will support cross-platform play with multiplayer supported across Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Squadrons will also be VR compatible with the PlayStation 4 and PC.
