The impressive-looking indie horror game The Dark World: KARMA was announced at the F5 Games Show earlier today. It is being developed by the new Chinese team, Pollard Studio, and is slated for a Q2 2022 release on Steam. There’s no news on other platforms as yet.
With strong nods to George Orwell’s novel 1984 and David Lynch’s work, especially Twin Peaks, this certainly looks like a game to keep an eye on.
While details on the game are scarce so far, what we do know is it’s a first-person, story-driven adventure. You wake at the start without any memories of who you are, where you are, or where you’ve come from. Taking on the role of an unwilling investigator, you embark on a journey of discovery through a dark and gloomy world to piece everything together and regain your memories.
You have the aid of a strange old man and a “bizarre tape” that connects you to your memories once discovered. Weird events, broken memory flashbacks, hidden truths… You will have to find out what caused all of them inside the dark world.

The press release promises that “…you will have a thrilling and psychedelic adventure diving into other people’s brains. Monsters hide in the dark, inexplicable sounds appear everywhere, and the environment around you seems alive and constantly changes itself!” This is all meant to disorient and confuse the player, making exploration more of a challenge. Other characters, events, and even the time all play an important role in your investigations and need to be paid attention to.
