During Xbox’s Game Showcase on Sunday, the next installation in id Software’s DOOM franchise was revealed. DOOM: The Dark Ages takes the series back to a medieval-like era with a dark fantasy twist on the rip-and-tear combat the classic games are known for. This could prove to be an excellent direction for the series.
The game will serve as a prequel (of sorts) to 2016’s DOOM and 2020’s DOOM Eternal. Doom Slayer (or Doom Guy) has a brand new look, including a Game of Thrones-inspired cape and a chainsaw shield. In addition to the shield, the new reveal trailer promises a slew of more new mechanics, such as mech vs. kaiju fights and a rideable cyberpunk dragon.
