Halloween: The Game

Michael Myers is set to slay the residents of Haddonfield in Halloween, the official video game based on the original film directed by John Carpenter. Several months ahead of release, Carpenter offered a new tease on the anticipated game.

Per IGN, Carpenter mentioned Halloween while addressing the upcoming video games he’s excited about. He suggested that the game adaptation has been a long time coming, and while he couldn’t reveal any new information just yet, Carpenter teased that major Halloween fans will be very happy with how it turns out.

“A Halloween game just makes sense and it was probably only a matter of time before it happened,” he said. “This is a strong entry that knows it has a lot to live up to. I can’t say too much yet but the diehards will be pleased.”

Technically, this isn’t the first official Halloween video game. An Atari 2600 game was released by Wizard Video in 1983, though its gameplay and graphics left a lot to be desired. The Michael Myers character has also popped up in various games, including Call of Duty: Ghosts, Dead by Daylight, and Fortnite. An arcade-style game dubbed RetroRealms: Halloween was also released in 2024.

It’s different with the upcoming Halloween game, which is being developed by IllFonic. This will be an asymmetrical multiplayer game, where multiple players will play as the “Heroes of Haddonfield,” hoping to stop Michael’s rampage, while someone else takes control of “The Shape” himself. A single player mode will also be included to further expand upon the lore of the original Halloween film.

Halloween will be released on Sept. 8, 2026.
