Blumhouse will reportedly reboot the 1996 movie The Craft, and the project is expected to begin shooting this July. Written by Daniel Casey and Zoe Lister-Jones, the new film will be produced by Jason Blum, Doug Wick, and Lucy Fisher. A director has not been officially named, and casting has yet to begin, but if the film is set to shoot this summer, these additional details ought to be forthcoming in the near future.
While many major franchise releases in recent years are direct sequels to classic movies, The Craft will instead be a straight remake. This means none of the same characters will return, with the reboot presenting new versions of them instead. If any of the original cast comes back for a possible cameo role, they’d be playing original characters.

Although Blumhouse does have a solid track record with its horror movies, rebooting beloved films always leaves fans uneasy when the news is first announced, and this is likely to cause a lot of division in the horror community.

Over two decades past the release of the original movie, The Craft has maintained a strong cult following. As one of the most popular horror flicks of the ’90s and perhaps the most talked about witch horror movie ever, the legacy of the classic 1996 film is very impressive. It’s very clear how much people still love the film, given the fan response to seeing all four lead actresses reunite for photo-ops at Monster Mania Con. Hopefully, for the sake of both Blumhouse and fans of the original movie, the reboot will be unique enough to stand on its own.
