Back in the 90’s when PCs were the master race and consoles were finding their feet, point and click adventure games were massive. Games such as Monkey Island, Grim Fandango and Full Throttle were all the rage. In fact, they’re still are quality by today’s standards.
In recent times, these have been remastered, and have had great reception. On November 18, 2016, Ron Gilbert of Monkey Island fame and Gary Winnick of Manic Mansion fame raised a Kickstarter campaign. The goal was to make a new point and click adventure game, in a retro style. Just $375,000 later, Thimbleweed Park was born. The game is styled in the same way as the their retro counterparts, complete with the humour we know and love.
In Thimbleweed Park, you’re in control of FBI agents Ray and Reyes and you’ve been sent to the town of Thimbleweed Park to investigate a murder. You’ll have to question numerous colorful characters along the way. When the game was released, developers Terrible Toybox pushed it out to Xbox One and Steam. Today’s announcement that they’re spreading the love across more platforms is a welcomed one.
PlayStation 4 gamers can enjoy the retro point and click fun on August 22nd. While there is no confirmed date for the Nintendo Switch, it is indeed heading that way soon.
