biomutant

Former Just Cause developers THQ Nordic and independent developer Experiment 101 have unveiled the trailer and a small snippet of gameplay for the brand new RPG, Biomutant. Revealed at this year’s Gamescon, BioMutant is an action RPG set in a colourful, post-apocalyptic world.

Players will take on the role of the titular Mutant, a small animalistic creature. Players will allegedly be able to heavily customize their character, collecting and using new mutations to change the appearance and skills of their furry little fighter. These mutations can be anything from a simple colour change to growing a pair of wings. Combat in BioMutant is described as a frantic mix between martial arts and weapons such as firearms and swords. The player character will explore the wonderfully bizarre and beautiful game world, learning new martial arts techniques from wise Kung Fu masters.

Several different modes of transport have also been revealed, such as mech-suits, weird robot hands and even hot air balloons. While not much of the story has been revealed yet, the short gameplay footage released is very intriguing. As someone who spent the majority of their childhood playing games about cute little animals like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet and Clank, this looks very interesting. I know that the ability to customize your fighter’s appearance is something 10 year old me would have loved.

So what do you think of BioMutant? Does the thought of roaming the wasteland as a cute little critter appeal to you, or do you prefer your apocalypse with a bit less colour? Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments and on social media!
