8Peter Pan is a kidnapper and murderer
Peter Pan has his roots in the early 1900s, having seen countless adaptations of his story since then. Seemingly a family-friendly fable, the tale is about a never-aging boy named Peter Pan who lives in a magical placed called Neverland. He recruits “lost” children referred to as the Lost Boys, all the while under the threat of a nefarious pirate known as Captain Hook. However, what if we’re looking at the story wrong, and Hook is actually the good guy?
A popular theory suggests that Peter is kidnapping the children in the Lost Boys. Peter murders them once they go through puberty, as they are no longer children, and thus, no longer “innocent.” Captain Hook is actually a former Lost Boy himself, who has managed to survive Peter’s attempts to murder him while losing a hand in the process. If true, Hook could be hellbent on finally stopping Peter once and for all, ending his reign of terror. It would also explain why the pirate never went after the kids, focusing only on Peter Pan and his fairy friends.
It might be dark as hell, but this theory more closely resembles the original Peter and Wendy novel than any of the popular adaptations.
