For the most part, wrestling fans are happy with simple wrestling games that just feature their favorite stars grappling in the ring. Still, some developers have tried adding wacky gimmicks to wrestling-themed titles, giving us these totally bizarre video games…
3WWF Betrayal (2001)

In 2001, THQ would release the game WWF Betrayal for the Game Boy Color. While featuring some of the most popular wrestlers in the company at the time as playable characters, this is not, in fact, a wrestling game. More akin to titles like Final Fight and Streets of Rage, Betrayal is a side-scrolling beat ’em up game with wrestlers battling their way through the city (while still wearing their wrestling tights, of course).
The concept of the game is loosely inspired by a wrestling storyline from 1999, which saw Stephanie McMahon getting kidnapped by The Undertaker. In this game, McMahon is abducted by a different kidnapper, and her father Vince McMahon is offering a WWF Championship title shot to whoever can save her. Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H, and The Undertaker are all available as playable characters.
As you progress through the game, you’re tasked with beating up random enemies like referees and businessmen as you look for Stephanie. The three wrestlers who aren’t chosen by the player serve as final bosses. Because of its goofy storyline and limited moveset, the game was widely panned. It’s unintentionally funny, but that’s all the enjoyment there is to be had with WWF Betrayal.
