After his untimely death due to a freak accident in 2016, the late Anton Yelchin is still very missed. A rising star in Hollywood, the young actor had made a name for himself to set up a very bright future in the film industry. Next, a documentary about Yelchin set to premiere at Sundance Film Festival this month will explore the actor’s short life. Called Love, Antosha, the movie was made by those who’ve been grieving the loss of Yelchin the most – his parents.

Yelchin’s mother Irina explained in a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times how much she mourned the death of her son with her husband. When all seemed lost, Yelchin’s Court of Conscience co-star Jon Voight suggested to the late actor’s parents they should make a documentary exploring their son’s life. Love, Antosha will certainly help preserve Yelchin’s legacy forever, though Irina still has mixed feelings on the whole thing.

From the interview:

“Maybe it was a selfish reason, because Anton, we just didn’t want to let him go. He was gone, but everyone talked about him, and his movies were coming out still. Everyone was saying how brilliant and talented and smart and kind and tenderhearted he was. Maybe because of that. Maybe because he never left, truly.”

Love, Antosha is directed by filmmaker Garret Price. Using home video footage and interviews with family members, Price is able to explore Yelchin’s family life in addition to his acting career. The movie features interviews with many of the people closest to Yelchin from the film industry as well. This includes Chris Pine, Jodie Foster, Jennifer Lawrence, John Cho, and J.J. Abrams.

Yelchin’s most prominent role may have been as Pavel Chekov in three separate Star Trek movies. Some of his other notable roles include leads in Terminator: SalvationOdd Thomas, and the Fright Night remake. Always enjoyable in his performances, Yelchin’s presence on the big screen is truly missed.
