A Twisted Metal TV series is in development at Playstation Productions, and we already can’t wait to see Sweet Tooth show up on the small screen. The project was revealed by Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra during an investor relations presentation from the company. Because the deal has only just been finalized, there’s no information on possible cast members or the specific plot, but we should hopefully find out more in the near future.
From IGN:
“We have a TV show we just agreed to get underway that will be developed from the IP on PlayStation, it’s called Twisted Metal. It’s a game that was put out many years ago and we’re going to develop a TV series around that.”
Recently, Sony announced the formation of their Playstation Productions banner with the goal of adapting various video games from the Sony library as films or TV shows. This means we could soon be seeing movies or shows based on every title from the catalog from Crash Bandicoot to God of War. A movie based on Uncharted has been announced in the past as well, and the project is now reportedly in “advanced development.”
With Detective Pikachu now in theaters, the next video game adaptation to hit theaters will be Sonic the Hedgehog this November. That upcoming film saw a tremendous amount of backlash following the release of the official trailer, which revealed a questionable design for the titular hedgehog. The character is now set to be redesigned visually before the film hits theaters as a result of the fan complaints.
Hopefully, Twisted Metal will be more accepted by fans upon its release. Because it’s extremely early in development, however, there’s no word on when or where we can expect to see it. Stay tuned for more info.
