Last year at E3 2018, the creators of the original Fallout games and developer of Fallout: New Vegas took the stage to announce their new IP being developed at Obsidian Entertainment. The game prided itself on the expansiveness of the open world, and the player’s ability to make choices that actually matter. That game was Outer Worlds.
Today, Xbox’s E3 2019 conference opened up with a better, more detailed look at gameplay from Outer Worlds, as well as a set release date. Outer Worlds is available for pre-order now with an October 25th release date, and will also premiere on Xbox Game Pass on release date. As of now, it is still expected to hit the PlayStation 4 and PC alongside its Xbox One release.

Outer Worlds looks like a good substitute for those Fallout fans who might have been disappointed by Fallout 76, which released last year. The game looks like a fun open world adventure in the same vein as Fallout, but different enough to feel fresh.

Published by Bethesda Softworks, Falllout: New Vegas was released in 2010 as the follow up game to the very successful Fallout 3, which debuted in 2008. This was the only Fallout game developed by Obsidian Entertainment, and wildly considered to be among the best released in the franchise. Over the years, Obsidian has expressed interest in creating another Fallout game, with Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart saying in 2013: “Oh, we’d love to do Fallout: New Vegas 2. It would be awesome.” While that never happened, it looks like Obsidian is taking us back to those New Vegas roots.
