John Turturro Cast as Carmine Falcone in ‘The Batman’

John Turturro in Mr. Deeds | Sony Pictures Releasing

The cast of The Batman continues to grow as John Turturro has been brought into the movie to play crime boss Carmine Falcone. Matt Reeves, the director of the upcoming superhero movie, revealed the news himself in a post on Twitter. Along with a GIF of Turturro in The Big Lebowski, Reeves posted a bat emoji with the hashtag #CarmineFalcone. And thus, another villain from Batman’s Rogues Gallery joins the roster of the Dark Knight’s adversaries in the upcoming film.

Turturro is an Emmy-winning character actor who’s appeared in a wide variety of film and TV projects over the years. Though he has dozens of memorable roles to pick from, one of his most memorable would have to be as Jesus Quintana in the classic comedy The Big Lebowski. Apparently, I’m not the only person to think so, as Turturro will be reprising the role in a spin-off called The Jesus Rolls which is due for a release in 2020. Some of his other notable roles include Do the Right Thing, Miller’s Crossing, Quiz Show, and O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Turturro is the third actor to be officially revealed to be playing a villain in the upcoming movie. Previously, Zoe Kravitz and Paul Dano were respectively cast as Catwoman and The Riddler. It has also been reported Colin Farrell is in talks to play Oswald “Penguin” Cobblepot in the movie as well, though his casting has yet to be officially confirmed. When it comes to the good guys, confirmed for the film so far are Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon.

The Batman is set to be released in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned for more updates.
