Netflix’s ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ Reboot Hits July 1st

It is probably safe to say that most of us need a familiar distraction at the moment. Well, as of July 1st, Netflix has us covered with their Unsolved Mysteries reboot. The 12-part series comes from Netflix, Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy, Levy’s company 21 Laps Entertainment, and production company Cosgrove-Meurer Productions.

The original series ran from January 20, 1987, until April 27, 2010, with the full-time host Robert Stack narrating until 2002, a year before succumbing to prostate cancer. Each episode featured multiple segments focused on cold cases, missing persons, conspiracy theories, and reported supernatural happenings such as UFOs and ghosts. For many of us, Stack’s undeniable voice was one of comfort for much of our lives.

In the rebooted series, each episode will focus on a single topic. There will also be no narrator or host, instead presented in a documentary style. In an interview with Channel Nonfiction, original co-creator John Cosgrove said that the new format change is “excellent.” He also went on to say, “It feels much more contemporary of than the old style. And, we don’t have the horrible job of trying to find somebody as good as Robert Stack.”

Well, we can’t really argue with that last part, but we can at least hold out hope for that iconic theme song. Either way, we know where we will be come July 1st!

Horror Geek Life would like to thank the Official Unsolved Mysteries Facebook account for verifying the Netflix release date.
