creepshow intro Creepshow series

Creepshow, quite possibly the best horror anthology film ever created, will be adapted into a series set to release in 2019. The horror streaming service Shudder has greenlit the project with Greg Nicotero attached. Nicotero is the executive producer and special make-up effects supervisor on AMC’s The Walking Dead and worked on special effects for 1987’s Creepshow 2. He has also collaborated on films such as Day of the Dead and Land of the Dead with Creepshow vets George A. Romero and Tom Savini.

Episodes of the upcoming Creepshow series will tell their own stories and will be directed by different filmmakers. It has been confirmed that Greg Nicotero will direct the first episode, with his special effects company, KNB EFX Group, working on make-up, special effects, and creatures for the series.

Nicotero tells EW, “Creepshow is a project very close to my heart! It is one of those titles that embraces the true spirit of horror…thrills and chills celebrated in one of its truest art forms, the comic book come to life! I’m honored to continue the tradition in the ‘spirit’ which it was created.”

Shudder is a horror-exclusive streaming site that requires a monthly subscription. Over the weekend, the service hosted a 24-hour Joe Bob Briggs marathon, which, unfortunately, was riddled with technical difficulties. Regardless, the event coupled with this upcoming series shows that Shudder is working on new ways to bring horror fans more exclusive content that presses all of our nostalgic buttons.

Creepshow was released in 1982 and directed by George A. Romero with a screenplay written by Stephen King and special effects by Tom Savini. It spawned two sequels and while Creepshow 2 (1987) is a considered a horror classic, Creepshow 3 (2006) was a complete bomb and even holds a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
