If you’re a fan of the original RoboCop but not so much its following sequels, you’re in luck. Original writer Ed Neumeier has written a direct sequel along with Justin Rhodes and Michael Miner to the 1987 original called RoboCop Returns, which will ignore RoboCop 2 and RoboCop 3. You could say that the upcoming sequel is taking the “Halloween approach,” as David Gordon Green’s Halloween sequel released last year similarly omitted every single sequel from the continuity, only acknowledging the original film.
Neill Blomkamp (District 9) was announced as the director of the project last year, and now, he’s teasing what viewers can expect when they see the movie when it’s released. Fortunately, it brings about some good news, as Blomkamp has confirmed RoboCop will be wearing the same suit in the new movie as he did in the 1987 original. When asked if the sequel will be using the original suit, Blomkamp simply responded, “1 million% original,” which is as definitive as it gets.

Perhaps fans were worried about a change in suit considering the negative reception many of them had to the 2014 reboot. Among the complaints was the change in the design of the suit, which was just not as iconic as the original. Even the original suit has a certain ’80s vibe to it, there probably won’t be too many people complaining about seeing it make its return for RoboCop Returns.
