Gears of War E-Day Trailer
Xbox

As Xbox’s Games Showcase came to an end on Sunday afternoon, we got hit with one last teaser, and what a finale it was. The show wrapped with the reveal of Gears of War: E-DAY, the next mainline game in the Gears of War series from The Coalition.

Gears of War: E-DAY takes place 14 years before the events of the first game and tells the story of Emergence Day. Players will step back into the boots of Marcus Fenix. E-DAY will also give the fans the chance to once again see Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago team up against the Locust hordes as they launch their terrifying attack on the planet Sera.

The Gears of War: E-DAY’s announcement trailer sets the stage and lets the audience know the stakes of the games by showing Marcus Fenix’s struggle against a single Locust Drone. E-DAY features humanity’s first encounters with the Locust armies, so it makes sense that they’d be ill-prepared.

In a nod to the original and iconic Gears of War trailer, the announcement trailer for E-DAY also features a melancholic rendition of Tears For Fears’ “Mad World.”

Nicole Fawcette, brand director at The Coalition, revealed to Xbox Wire on Sunday that the game will serve as a “story of many origins,” including Marcus, Dom, their friendship, and even the Chainsaw Lancer, which is absent from the trailer. They also teased that there would be more surprises to come.

Gears of War: E-DAY will be built in the Unreal 5 engine and has yet to have a release date announced, but we can be sure to see it on Xbox Series X|S (and Game Pass) sometime in the future!
